UC Berkeley sociologist Arlie Russell Hochschild spent five years in Louisiana hearing from Americans living in an economically depressed region who felt like they have been left behind by the economy. Her book Strangers In Their Own Land: Anger and Mourning on the American Right details her experiences. Hochschild will speak about her years in the Deep South, as well as the empathy gap she has observed in this election.
