Details
Narrated by Samuel L. Jackson, the film explores the history of race relations in the United States through the memoirs of novelist James Baldwin as he recounts the lives of civil rights leaders Martin Luther King Jr., Malcolm X and Medgar Evers. The documentary was ultimately nominated for an Academy Award for the Best Documentary Feature.
Following the film, we will have a brief panel discussion. Professor Stephen A. Small from the department of African American Studies, an expert on race relations in the post-civil rights period, will be joining us. Additionally, we will have Calvester Stanley, an Oakland native and now President of the Boys & Girls Club of Oakland.
Dinner will be served! Friends and family welcomed!
