Jeff Oldenburg: From Search to Exit—Lessons from Acquiring, Scaling, and Selling a Business

Jeff Oldenburg, Haas Alum, is a search fund entrepreneur and investor who most recently served as CEO of Echosec Systems, a leading provider of open-source intelligence software. Jeff acquired Echosec through the search fund model and oversaw all aspects of Echosec’s operations. He sold Echosec to Flashpoint in 2022, delivering an IRR of 97.5% to investors.

Prior to Echosec, Jeff was a Director at the Royal Bank of Scotland, where he specialized in interest rate derivative sales and trading. Jeff oversaw the firm’s interest rate sales team in the Midwest and Southern regions, growing sales from $12mm to $36mm over a one-year period.

Jeff is a demonstrated leader with expertise in finance, business strategy, operations, sales and marketing, software, private equity, and P&L management. He holds an MBA from the UC Berkeley Haas School of Business and a BA in Economics and Geography from Middlebury College, where he played varsity tennis.
