Event Details
On Nov. 20, join the Haas Education Speaker Series to learn from two education leaders seeking to change policies in service of educational equity. Carrie Hahnel will speak about her research at Education Trust-West, an state advocacy organization that is committed to closing opportunity gaps among low-income students and students of color in California. Carrie will facilitate a "data walk" to share data trends that will help students better understand California's education policy landscape and emerging issues.

Next, we'll hear from Paymon Zarghami, a board member for the San Jose Unified School District (SJUSD). Since 2013, the SJUSD has increased the overall graduation rate from 81% to 87%, the Latino graduation rate from 73% to 82%, and the African American college eligibility rate from 30% to 44%. Paymon will share the policies that contributed to this progress, including the adoption of a landmark teacher evaluation system.

From 5:30-6:10pm, we'll have a casual networking happy hour for students and our guest speakers. Our speakers will then begin at 6:15.

**Note that you do not need to register for this event on CampusGroups if you are already enrolled in the Education Speaker Series.
