Interested in buying and running your own business? Want to be your own boss and the CEO of a small company? Join Finance Club and Berkeley Entrepreneurs Association for a Masterclass on Entrepreneurship Through Acquisition (ETA) with Jan Simon on Wednesday 14th at 12:30. In this masterclass, we will discuss different approaches to ETA, including but not limited to search funds. The class will include discussion on a case, which will be shared with registered students in advance.

Jan Simon is an investor, banker and scholar who has invested and raised private and public capital across multiple industries in Europe and North America. He is also a Visiting Professor at IESE Business School, and Visiting Scholar at the London School of Economics and Political Science. He was rated by The Economist as one of the Top #20 Business School Professors in the world. He has been a special advisor to Pacific Lake Partners (the largest investor in search funds) and is the managing partner of Vonzeo Capital, a global institutional investor in search funds.

A search fund is an investment vehicle through which investors support an entrepreneur's efforts to locate, acquire, manage and grow a privately held company. In this model, a recent MBA graduate (or two graduates) becomes the CEO of the company and works to build the business over the following 5+ years. The entrepreneurs are compensated with a significant equity stake in the value created during their tenure. This challenge and independence has resulted in the creation of over 250 Search Funds, with the asset class as a whole boasting an aggregate pre-tax internal rate of return of 36.7 percent and 8.4x multiple of investment.
