This weekend boot camp will expand upon other speaker sessions in the fall related to Search Funds and Entrepreneurship Through Acquisition, with a deeper focus on skills to develop, and objective perspective and advice.
Jan Simon will bring to Haas his experience teaching a course on Search Funds / ETA at IESE. Jan is an investor, banker and scholar who has invested and raised private and public capital across multiple industries in Europe and North America. He is also a Visiting Professor at IESE Business School, and Visiting Scholar at the London School of Economics and Political Science. He was rated by The Economist as one of the Top #20 Business School Professors in the world. He has been a special advisor to Pacific Lake Partners (the largest investor in search funds) and is the managing partner of Vonzeo Capital, a global institutional investor in search funds. Jan led a discussion at Haas last year that was very well received.
A search fund is an investment vehicle through which investors support an entrepreneur's efforts to locate, acquire, manage and grow a privately held company. In this model, a recent MBA graduate (or two graduates) becomes the CEO of the company and works to build the business over the following 5+ years. The entrepreneurs are compensated with a significant equity stake in the value created during their tenure. This challenge and independence has resulted in the creation of over 250 Search Funds, with the asset class as a whole boasting an aggregate pre-tax internal rate of return of 36.7 percent and 8.4x multiple of investment.
Room number at Haas and specific times to follow. Feel free to register and add this to your calendar in the meantime. Further registration and details to follow.
