What

Organizational design is an emerging, interdisciplinary field. At its core, it’s about creating the conditions for employees to do excellent work. This involves designing rituals, language, incentive systems, processes, digital tools, and even physical spaces that enable employees to do their best work.  It’s lens on management consulting that helps organizations, teams, and individuals think and act differently.

Why

The world of work is undergoing rapid change and the old adages of people and resource management don’t quite work as they once did. We live in a world where the gig economy has created distributed networks of part time employees, where workers seek purpose - and not only profit - from their employers, where the average tenure at a company has shrunk from a decade to two years, where the hierarchies are flatter and the roles less formalized. All of this has created significant shifts in what it means to do work today. For companies to stay competitive in today’s economy, the way we design for organizational behavior must shift along with it.

As future business leaders, we need to think as organizational designers as we support companies to become more:

  • Innovative and agile

  • Human-centered

  • Competitive

Who

Learning about organizational design is for anyone who has direct impact on the processes, systems, routines and incentives on their team, department or organization. It is for anyone who is interested in leading more creative, and innovative teams.
