Come learn about the economics, policies, and social dynamics that underpin the housing affordability crisis, and hear discussion about what might be done to address this challenge. The expert panel will include local professors, government officials, economists and developers.
There will be networking from 5-5:30 and the panel will start at 5:30. Light snacks and refreshments will be provided.

Tracy Elsen
Tracy is an Evening/Weekend MBA student at the Haas School of Business and active in the Net Impact Club. She currently works in Content Marketing at LendingHome and previously served as an Associate Editor at Curbed SF, covering Bay Area commercial and residential real estate.
Thomas Gonzales
Thomas is a Master of City Planning student at the College of Environmental Design and a Vice President in the Berkeley Real Estate Club. He also works part time for Carmel Partners, a residential real estate investment and development firm.

Claudia joined the City of Oakland in 2015. She previously served as Planning and Building Director in Oakland from 2000 to 2007 before going on to be a development consultant and then working at the state level as executive director of the California Housing Finance Agency and the California Department of Housing and Community Development.
Ted Egan

Managing the Office of Economic Analysis since 2007, Ted has led a team of economists in producing over 75 economic impact reports on pending City legislation, covering topics from taxation and fees, to land use, industry, and environmental regulation. Since 2004, Ted has taught Urban Economics at UC Berkeley, where he also completed his Ph.D. in City and Regional Planning. Prior to his work at the City, he managed urban and regional economic development studies across four continents during a ten-year consulting career

Carol Galante
Professor of Affordable Housing and Urban Policy
As Faculty Director at the Terner Center for Housing Innovation @ UC Berkeley, Carol works to formulate practical solutions and policies to meet the challenges of developing homes and communities that are affordable, vibrant and environmentally sustainable. Carol previously served as Assistant Secretary for Housing at the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). She was also President and Chief Executive of BRIDGE Housing Corporation, California's largest non-profit affordable housing developer.
