Revitalize & Restore | Sun Salutations for the Fall Equinox
Details
Join us for a special yoga practice inspired by the traditional 108 Sun Salutations equinox ritual. We’ll move through a shortened 54 Sun Salutations to get the energy moving and the mind cleared for the new season 🪷
We’ll begin with meditation and breathwork, flow through the salutations to clear energy and build heat, then slow down with hip openers, twists, and grounded postures. The practice will close with a restorative savasana, guided meditation, and optional reflection space, inviting balance and renewal.
Space is limited! We will have some mats to borrow (please bring your own if you prefer) and will provide Kin Eurphorics refreshments. Reach out to Juliana Sandford or Elena Mnayarji with any questions!!

What is this practice?
108 Sun Salutations is a challenging and symbolic practice often undertaken to mark significant occasions, such as the fall equinox. The practice consists of performing 108 rounds of Sun Salutations (Surya Namaskar). A Sun Salutation is a sequence of yoga postures performed in a continuous flow, typically including poses like Forward Fold, Downward Dog, Plank, Chaturanga, and Upward Dog.
Why 108?
In yoga and many spiritual traditions, the number 108 is considered sacred. It is said to represent the universe, the human body, and spiritual wholeness. For instance, there are 108 beads in a mala (prayer beads), 108 Upanishads (sacred texts in Hinduism), and 108 energy lines that converge to form the heart chakra.
Why do this now?
The fall equinox marks the transition from summer to fall, a time of balance when day and night are equal. Practicing 108 Sun Salutations during this time is a way to honor this balance and the changing of seasons as well as clarify the mind and body as the seasons turn. It’s also seen as an opportunity for personal reflection and renewal, preparing for the introspective period that fall and winter represent.
What to expect?
Completing 108 Sun Salutations is physically demanding and often takes over an hour, depending on the pace. It requires endurance, strength, and mental focus. Despite the physical challenge, the repetitive nature of the practice can become meditative, helping to clear the mind and foster a deeper connection with the body and breath. The experience can be transformative, offering a sense of accomplishment and a deeper connection to the rhythms of nature. Expect roughly 20 minutes of seated meditation, 45 minutes of rigorous practice, and 30 minutes of integrative/restorative practice.
Who is this for?
Because this is a challenging and repetitive practice, it is best suited for yogis with some foundational experience. While all levels are welcome and modification options will be offered, we recommend that complete beginners start with a gentler class before exploring this style of practice.
