In case we didn't mention the Weeknd enough...

Introducing...the all new HTC Directory!!!

Parks And Recreation Reaction GIF

The purpose of this directory is to help you easily find others at Haas who have worked at a specific company within a certain role or function (see example below). There is also a section where you can search for HTC Alum as well! Additionally, you can check out your own profile and make updates as needed.

We highly encourage everyone to take a few minutes this week to update your profile if you haven't already, and we hope you find the new HTC Directory useful!

Spotlight Time!

Camila Rico, FTMBA, Ex-Uber Strategic Partnerships

1. What did your day to day look like in Strategic Partnerships at Uber?

My day to day looked very different, but the majority of the day was spent talking to clients about our strategy on how we would implement Uber for Business for their companies. The rest of the time is talking with internal teams such as marketing, legal and product teams on client deals.

2. What are some of the biggest challenges you faced in your role?

I had two big challenges: 1. Competition, competitors all had very similar products and would offer different perks, so it was up to me to show all the capabilities of the Uber for Business platform. and 2. Data privacy. Uber has access to a lot of different data due to its network of riders and drivers. So we needed to make sure we were compliant with GDPR and various other additional requests from clients, especially international ones. Getting all the documents together was a long process.

3. What was your experience with Uber's company culture?

My experience was really good, I think a lot varies per team or business unit. My  team was great, very collaborative and fun. In terms of Uber as a whole, I really appreciated that Dara, the CEO, held all-hands meetings every Tuesday. Every employee could attend and they would showcase different projects Uber was working on. They left the last 30min to answer questions from the rest of us!

4. Any advice you have for students who are pivoting into tech, or into Uber specifically?

I'd say talk to as many people as possible, Uber and big tech companies have so many different business units that vary so much, you can get a feel for which area you are more interested in. Uber really values people who are passionate, are ready to work hard, and are scrappy! Uber in so many ways is still a startup and you should be ready to wear many hats.

5. What do you like to do in your spare time?

In my spare time I like to do yoga, climb, or just be outdoors! There are so many great areas around the Bay to be outside and have gorgeous views.
