Subject: HCF Weekly Newsletter

Dear HCF,

A few announcements for the upcoming week.

1. Remember that HCF Leadership Applications are due this Friday in the form of an email to Jake, Anthony, and me with answers to the four questions in the attached document!  We really look forward to hearing from you!

2. Mark your calendars for our pre-Thanksgiving Dinner on Sunday 11/15!  We'll bring the turkey and feel free to bring Thanksgiving sides or dessert (but no pressure -- don't let that prohibit you from coming!) :).  Email Jake and me with what you are bringing so we can plan accordingly.

3. Morning prayers are moving to Wednesday mornings 8:15-9:00am AND will have a dial-in option in addition to a room at Haas.  So for you all who want to work from home or are actually working (*EWs*) or are virtual (*Anthony*)  that early, feel free to call in for prayer.  Note that we are starting again on Wednesday 11/18, since Veteran's day is next week and we had issues booking a room for this week.

4.  And last but not least, we have a Theology of Work webinar viewing in S207 tomorrow from November 6-7pm
(or virtual with link here).  It is also showing on Wednesday November 11 5-6pm!

Grace and Peace,

Anthony, Jake, and Megan

Weekly Reflection - Megan Wong (FTMBA '16)

It’s almost the completion of my HCF leadership tenure, so even though you get to hear from me every week, it’s about time for me to write again :).

As we prepare for this transition, I want to share that…you never know how God will use you (whether in leadership or not!).  About this time last year, I didn’t originally choose to be an HCF leader; someone asked me if I would consider leading.  I feel a bit like Moses when God told him to lead the Israelites.  I’m not particularly charismatic or popular or bold or visionary or skilled at speaking.  My heart feels hard, my spiritual journey feels like it goes up and down week after week, and I feel selfish and protective instead of selfless and giving.  I didn’t particularly want to be identified as the token Christian on campus, writing Christian-y things to people every week or representing Haas at diversity events.  Surely someone else who could represent Christ better to a broader audience would be better at this?

But as it happened, God enlarged my heart for this community and continues to widen it every week.  It continues to surprise me that this occupies so much of my mind energy, but I think about all of you regularly.  I hope and pray that you are thriving in your own communities and relationships.  I pray that Haas would be a time that leads you to God, that struggles would drive you deeper into dependence on Him, that joys would move your heart to praise, that work would place you by His side in fellowship with Him.  I pray that the message of the cross, that Jesus Christ died to save sinners of whom I am the worst, would be our power and our glory; even in an environment where power, perfection, and achievements are valued so highly.  I pray that you would know how much God loves you, no matter who you are or what you’ve done, and that He has a glorious future far beyond all that you can hope or dream or achieve on your own.

Let God burden your heart with the things that matter most, for Jesus has said “my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”  If something is on your heart for HCF or for Haas, perhaps that is exactly the thing that God wants to do through you while you’re here.
