Events:
- Check out “Front Row with W. Kamau Bell and Friends”, which takes place at Zellerbach Hall at 7 p.m. tomorrow - Wednesday, March 6.
- W. Kamau Bell will lead a panel discussion on the black experience at Berkeley to be followed by a Q&A. The show will explore African American identities and delve into why blacks are one of the least represented communities in the UC Berkeley population.
- You're invited to the "Investing in Inclusion" Pitch Competition on March 8th. Pitches will kick off at 10 a.m. in the Spieker Forum. Please join us to watch six venture pitches and support teams from Haas, UCLA, Michigan, and Stanford! Coffee, snacks, and light refreshments will be available. RSVP here.
- The EGAL Investing in Inclusion Pitch Competition is an avenue for business students and their teams to apply innovative problem-solving to issues of exclusion and marginalization.
- BBSA is partnering with Melanie Akwule (CEO and Co-Founder @ MINWO, LLC and Haas EWMBA student) to promote "In the Black - the Black Business Workshop" on March 9th, 2019. Please visit the event website and Eventbrite for more details and how to register.
- We're investing in Black Bay Area businesses. Are you a Black small or medium business owner? Are you looking for ways to put a little pep back in your company's step? Or maybe you've had goals that you've wanted to accomplish for a while but haven't had the time or support to execute on them. Whatever your story, this workshop oriented conference is for you. You'll hear from industry leaders on topics such as hiring and retaining talent, creative investment and funding strategies, digital marketing, and more.
- The 5th Annual Berkeley Haas Africa Business Forum will talk place on Saturday, April 6, 2019.
- The Berkeley-Haas Africa Business Forum is the preeminent annual conference at the University of California that brings together leading academia and professionals from around the world to advance development on the African continent. In addition to raising awareness and encouraging debate around pertinent business topics, we provide an ideal networking opportunity for people interested in the overall development of countries in Africa. Our vision is to make Haas the destination for developing innovative and scalable business solutions to Africa's challenges.
- This year the theme is "Africa On The Move: Enabling Homegrown Innovation". There are four exciting panels: Homegrown Entrepreneurs, Venture Finance Enablers, Public Policy Innovators and Homegrown Creative.
- Come experience the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater for $10 (normally $19) on Thursday, April 11th! Join us for an inspiring night of art, food, music, revelry, and community. See flyer attached. Please let us know if you are planning to attend - there is a group from Haas going so we can coordinate.
- On April 19th, The National Coalition of 100 Black Women, Oakland Bay Area Chapter is hosting the Madam C.J. Walker Luncheon and Empowerment Forum. More details can be found here.
- Marco Lindsey has purchased a table for Haas, and there are about 9 seats available. If you are free and interested, please let him know by Friday, March 8th at noon. If seats are not filled by Friday, he will reach out to other members of our Haas community.
- The luncheon is on a Friday in SF beginning at 11:30am. It will be a beautiful event with lots of networking opportunities.
Professional Opportunities:
- CBRE has internship opportunities for MBA students! Garland Fuller, Senior Diversity Recruiter of the Pacific Southwest, is looking for current students interested in this opportunity. - The ELC's 2019 National Business Case Competition is a great opportunity to have impact, build relationships and win some amazing prices. Andrew Briggs was a participant last year and is happy to share his experience if you are interested. Please see this link for more details.
