Dear HCF,
Welcome to a new week! Hope that everyone enjoyed Vegas or wherever they were this weekend :).
To all HCF students (not just first years!): Please join us this Thursday for a panel discussion on being a Christian at Haas. Jason, a pastor from Christ Church, has agreed to come and share briefly on Authenticity as a Christian before we dive into some Q&A with second years about their experiences at Haas thus far. Please bring an honest, open, and authentic mind; this should be a great time for us to create a safe space to process our experiences together.
Thanks also to James for writing our HCF reflection this week and leading our community group this year! Please take this as an example of how our club works; we are here to serve you and if you have a particular idea or need, please come talk to us to figure out how we can make it a reality!
Grace and Peace,
Anthony, Jake, and Megan
Weekly Reflection - James Cho (FTMBA '16)
When I proposed that HCF start a community group earlier this semester, I was motivated by selfish reasons: A year into my stint at Haas, I still hadn’t found a church nor another group of believers with whom I could share and reflect. I craved the connection and accountability that comes from such a setting. I believed that there were probably many other MBA-ers who were looking for something similar—I was right—and assumed that one of our more thoughtful, reflective members would lead the charge—I was wrong.
Having just had our third meeting, our HCF community group is certainly in its infancy. We’re still trying to settle into a normal routine and to understand each member’s “wish list" for the group. But even in these few meetings, that I can take a break from the never-ending to do list that is business school and reflect with a group of people who understand this peculiar stage in life is more than comforting. And that accountability, it’s certainly there, at least in terms needing to be present at every meeting: If I hadn’t been asked to lead the group myself, I probably wouldn’t have felt compelled to drop everything and drive to North Berkeley each Sunday evening. Just another reminder that God provides you with what you need—perhaps, just not in the way that you expected.
Praises and Prayer Requests
PRAISE for how the community group came together this year!
PRAYER for our panel this week; that we would be encouraged and inspired to pursue our two years at Haas with much intentionality and thanksgiving as Christians.
Please submit your own praises and prayer requests to your co-presidents and specify whether we have permission to include them in the newsletter. Even if you don't want them to be public, we would be so delighted to share in your blessings and lift up your burdens.
“And my God will meet all your needs according to the riches of his glory in Christ Jesus.” – Philippians 4:19
