Dear HCF,
The year is flying by quickly and we need to support one another more than ever during this stressful time! Press on, friends!
As some of you know, we are currently coordinating a Christians in Business class for next Spring. It will be a Speaker Series-like class (one credit) in Spring A or Spring B, tailored to whatever is most helpful to this group and to the broader Haas community. To help us gauge interest in the class and choose topics, please please fill out this 2-minute survey (we will send a version to all of Haas after getting this group's feedback) by the end of the week. And email Anthony if you have ideas on how to shape this exciting offering for next year!
Please check the side bar and click boxes for the upcoming events. We have two inter-fellowship events with Christians from CHAMPS (another Berkeley group, RSVP) and with Stanford GSB (in SF, RSVP). Both will be great opportunities to meet Christians outside of Haas!
As our final HCF event, we are planning a lunch and prayer time in early May. We want to spend some time catching up before the summer and praying for our next adventures. Please RSVP as soon as possible so that we can get a headcount. It will be super low key and as efficient as possible (so you can maximize your ROI during the end of year craziness :)), so come join us!
Grace and Peace,
Anthony, Jake, and Megan
Weekly Reflection - Ben Kim (EWMBA '17)
The church I attend is currently exploring a partnership with another church to see if we can glorify the Lord better together than apart. While the churches share a commitment to the authority of Scripture, they are very different from each in many characteristics, which include age (both as a church and a congregation), ethnicity, and culture. I am both uncomfortable and excited about the prospect of joining a community of believers who have nothing in common but Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior.
Fellowshipping with believers who are very different from me makes me uncomfortable because it will expose my sin. It will unearth my hidden prejudices and reveal how little patience and forgiveness I have for individuals unlike me. But that is also the reason why I am excited. Our sinfulness only highlights that we have nothing to offer one another but the love Christ gives. He is the only one who can transform sinners into a family.
This partnership is still in its infancy and may not fully materialize. However, I do not think that a failure of our churches to collaborate means God’s love is unable to overcome our differences. The diversity of the church body is a testament to the power of the Gospel to cross all human boundaries. Given the leaders’ commitment to sound doctrine based on the revealed Word of God, if the churches go their separate ways, it will be because there is a mismatch in strengths and weaknesses. But the leaders are hopeful about the success of the endeavor. Whatever happens, may God’s glory be magnified.
Praises and Prayer Requests
PRAISE for the freedom that is ours in the gospel. Praise for classmates whose trust is growing daily in the Lord.
PRAYER for an HCF sister whose mother was recently diagnosed with gastric cancer. Prayer for her family and for her strength during this difficult time.
Please submit your own praises and prayer requests to your co-presidents and specify whether we have permission to include them in the newsletter. Even if you don't want them to be public, we would be so delighted to share in your blessings and lift up your burdens.
“And my God will meet all your needs according to the riches of his glory in Christ Jesus.” – Philippians 4:19
