Dear HCF,
Welcome back from Spring Break! We hope you all had an amazing and refreshing week and will be praying for a smooth transition back to the regular Haas life :).
As we move into Holy Week, from Palm Sunday to Easter, let's take time as a community to remember what our faith is all about. Take some time to read through Jesus' life in the gospels this week and attend a local church service. And then join us for an dinner on Easter Sunday to celebrate Jesus' resurrection together (friends and family welcome!)! Please RSVP by Friday so that we can get an accurate headcount for food!
"For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish, but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him."
Grace and Peace,
Anthony, Jake, and Megan
Weekly Reflection - James Cho (FTMBA '16)
Two Sundays ago, I joined the first study of Every Good Endeavor by Tim Keller. Much of the session centered around our individual definitions of “godly work”—because the answer certainly isn’t just “ministry." Is godly work about enabling social justice, about ministering to our coworkers, about creating beauty, or about simply working hard and being excellent? Are we called to follow our passions or endure faithfully in a job that is difficult?
Our conclusion: It can be any and all of these definitions. In the same way that our varied professional experiences add depth to our in-class discussions, so did those experiences color our individual definitions of work—or at least what we prioritized in our professions.
For me, the reflection was especially valuable as I continue to think about what I will do this summer. I could more thoughtfully determine what aspects of a job are must-haves and what are nice-to-haves. Furthermore, through the discussion, I looked back on my career progression and was reminded once again of the beautiful divine orchestration that had led me to Haas. As an undergraduate at the Hotel School, I would have never imagined that I would enter the classroom and then work for an education non-profit. And yet, all of those experiences are now part of my identity. And with that realization, I was once again encouraged to remain faithful: I may not yet know what I’m doing this summer or after this MBA experience, but I am sure that all of it will be part of God’s amazing plan for me.
Praises and Prayer Requests
PRAISE for amazing opportunities over Spring Break!
PRAYER that we would see Jesus' life, death, and resurrection with new eyes this week and know Him truly as our Lord and Savior.
Please submit your own praises and prayer requests to your co-presidents and specify whether we have permission to include them in the newsletter. Even if you don't want them to be public, we would be so delighted to share in your blessings and lift up your burdens.
“And my God will meet all your needs according to the riches of his glory in Christ Jesus.” – Philippians 4:19
