SF Beer Week 2014 (February 7th – 16th)
SF Beer Week begins on February 7th and continues on through February 16th. This is the Bay Area wide celebration of beer. Bars throughout the Bay Area (including here in Berkeley) will be having events throughout this time in celebration of Beer Week. Beer Club will be celebrating Beer Week with a series of events:
Beer Club Trip to SoMa StrEAT Food Park Urban Picnic (11AM – 4PM February 8th)
We will be taking a trip to SoMa StrEAT Food Park for their Urban Picnic event. SoMa StrEAT Food Park is a permanent food truck park, and for SF Beer Week, they will be bringing in some of San Francisco’s most aspiring additions in craft beer brewing to pour their distinct creations at San Francisco’s first permanent food truck park.
This event is open to everyone (so bring all of your friends), and SoMa StrEAT Food Park has offered us special VIP ticket pricing for anyone who buys tickets through the Haas Beer Club. Tickets are $22 for Beer Club Members / $42 for anyone else and include unlimited samples, pours of new, rare and classic beers, and front-of-line service at all pour stations. For anyone not interested in VIP tickets, general admission is free.

Beer Club/BREC Happy Hour @Eureka (NEW DATE: February 11th)
The Berkeley Real Estate Club and Haas Beer Club invite you to celebrate SF Beer Week at Eureka! in downtown Berkeley. Discover the renaissance of American craft brewing and small batch distillation at Eureka!’s uniquely 100% America beer and bourbon bar. Eureka! features rare, innovative and ultra-premium craft beer and whiskey handmade by the United States' best artisans. Beer Club/WIL Beer Pong Tournament@ Pyramid Brewery (Feburary 14th)
On January 14th (Valentine’s Day), we will be teaming up with WIL to co-sponsor a beer pong tournament at Pyramid Brewery in Berkeley. The tournament is a put on by Pyramid and open to everyone, but they have agreed to give a portion of the proceeds to C4C. Join our friends in WIL,and let’s fill up the bracket with Haasies!
Belgium Tasting (February 20th)
Come out and try delicious Belgian beers hand selected by Haas' house Belgian, Bart Pannecoeck. We will have more than 10 Belgians to choose from! You will not want to miss this event! More information on prices, location, and registration to follow!
Beer of the Newsletter - Schofferhofer Grapefruit Hefeweizen (submitted by Jesse Tao)
I was introduced to this beer about a month ago at Disneyland of all places. Specifically Epcot center at the Germany pavilion. I remembered it to be one of the most delicious, interesting, and refreshing beers I've ever had. In retrospect, this was probably because Germany is fairly deep into the World Showcase and I had been drinking at every country's pavilion on the way there so I was already pretty sloshed.
Luckily I found this beer at the local Bevmo and was able to more objectively review it. I would describe this beer as the strange lovechild of a wheat beer and a girly malt beverage. The grapefruit taste is very strong and mostly overwhelms the usual beer taste. At 3.2% alcohol, it's practical like fruit juice with a hint of alcohol. In fact, if you take grapefruit juice, add Sprite, and then a splash of vodka, you'd probably get something similar. It's a good beer to try on a hot day but lacks the complexity, sophistication, and punch to really keep me interested.
