Dear HCF,
We look forward to seeing you at Jake and Jess Qian's house in North Berkeley for dinner next Sunday! It will be a great informal time of food, fellowship, and planning for the upcoming year. Please RSVP so that we can prepare enough food!
Press on! If you have praises or prayer requests or a reflection, please send those to Megan for future newsletters! Otherwise, I'm going to start cold-emailing some of you :).
Grace and Peace,
Anthony, Jake, and Megan
Weekly Reflection - Jake
I was talking with some friends here a few days before classes started about where we felt was home. I'm not sure I realized it until that point, but after a few weeks back in Minnesota for winter break, coming back to Berkeley felt like I was coming home.
The hardest year of my adult life was my first year out of college. I had just left the strongest community I had ever been a part of, and my closest friends were scattered all around the world. We expended most of our social energy keeping in touch, visiting each other, and generally grasping for what we had in college. The following summer, we got together for a reunion where we worshipped together and cried together. We recognized that there was a something we had to let go, and each and every one of us heard the call from God to go out and be a community builder. That whatever city we were in would be our home, and wherever we were, we would strive to be fully present there, build community, and build his kingdom.
Painful as that year was, it's really gone a long way in setting me up for my move to Haas, and whatever future transitions I may have. In reflection, I've realized that so many of the toughest times and biggest challenges in my life are what's given me the most personal growth, and prepared me for the various unforeseen challenges ahead. I've long since given up trying to figure out exactly what God's plan in my life is. I am, however, very confident that wherever I end up, he has prepared me and will lead me through.
Praises and Prayer Requests
PRAISE for this opportunity to be at this MBA program. Praise for food, family, friends, and faith. Praise that God is faithful and good. His love endures forever!
PRAYER for our first HCF dinner this Sunday. Pray for community-building, real conversations, support for the weary, and wisdom to take HCF in God’s direction and not ours.
Please also pray for those in the throes of internship/job searching. Pray for time to prepare and for peace.
As the Phone-a-Thon starts, keep the class of 2017 in your prayers as well!
Please submit your own praises and prayer requests to your co-presidents and specify whether we have permission to include them in the newsletter. Even if you don't want them to be public, we would be so delighted to share in your blessings and lift up your burdens.
“And my God will meet all your needs according to the riches of his glory in Christ Jesus.” – Philippians 4:19
