As Chief Financial Officer of the KIPP Foundation, Garfield Byrd leads the Finance, Grants, Financial Planning and Administration teams. Prior to joining KIPP, Garfield spent over 25 years leading finance teams in both the non-profit and for-profit sectors, including serving as Chief of Finance and Administration for the Wikimedia Foundation.
Over lunch, Garfield will discuss the intricacies of education finance and trade-offs that are made when working to provide quality education to children, especially as it pertains to managing strategic investments.

The Future Fund for Education is a new organization, seeking to identify, fund and support African entrepreneurs who are leading schools and other institutions or initiatives that evidence creative and impactful approaches to education across Africa. Duties include: (a) Managing day-to-day operations of FFE’s start-up phase, including the establishment of, or strengthening of operational systems, communications and marketing; (b) Building partnerships with educators, innovators and leading academic institutions across Africa; (c) Defining and managing outreach, application and selection process for first round of FFE Education Entrepreneurs (“E2”); and (d) Providing support to E2, designing cohort engagement, wrap-around services, tracking and reporting impact.
