Weekly Reflection - Megan

“When I said ‘My foot is slipping,’ your love, O LORD, supported me.  When anxiety was great within me, your consolation brought joy to my soul.” – Psalm 94:18-19

For me (a Type A-always looking forward-person), the last few days of Winter Break were difficult.  I love Haas, but I hate the feeling that I’m never doing enough socially, academically, or professionally.  I hate the pressure that I impose upon myself to find a career that I love in less than two years.  And oh please, make all those unread emails disappear!

In my anxiety about the upcoming semester, the Lord brought me consolation in a few ways.  First, He gave me a glimpse of His love, which was poured out on me before I did anything.  When Jesus died for me, the only resume I had was my ugly sin…and Jesus loved me “with an everlasting love” even then.  Who else do I need to prove myself to when my Creator, King, and Judge calls me his treasured possession?  Second, He gave me a glimpse of what He is doing in my life.  While I have been blessed abundantly as a student here at Haas with great classmates and opportunities and training, there are also real struggles that I face day to day – anxiety, fear, busyness, far-away-ness from God and others.  And it hit me that God is in BOTH the blessings and the struggles/failures.  He is using BOTH of those experiences to grow my faith, which is of greater worth than gold, in mysterious and awesome ways.  Praise Him that all things work together for my good and His glory!

One of my hopes for this upcoming semester is to worry less and trust God more, in small and big things.  To know that “He who did not spare his own Son, but gave him up for us all – how will he not also, along with him, gracious give us all things?”  But I really need a community to speaking those truths to me and telling me when I’m spiraling again.  I look forward to growing that community with you all this semester.  Here’s to Spring 2015 for HCF!

Upcoming Events and Announcements

We are still working out the best times for regular events in the Spring.  If you’re interested in any of the below, please fill out the following when2meet with your general availability so that we can accommodate as many people as possible with our events.  We’re hoping to do weekly prayers and bible studies and monthly fellowship dinners.

  • Morning Prayer: TBD, depending on when2meet
  • Weekly Bible Study: TBD, depending on when2meet
  • Fellowship Dinner: TBD, depending on when2meet (notice a trend here?)
  • Believers in Business Conference (NYC): 2/20-2/21 (Contact Anthony Patterson if you’re interested in coming!  We have a solid group of Haasies already planning to attend.)
  • Anything else you want to see?  Contact one of your co-presidents!

Praises and Prayer Requests

PRAISE for all the wonderful things people were able to do over break!  Really, we are so lucky to be students with 4-week breaks and opportunities to travel/vegetate/whatever we want to do.

PRAYER for HCF in the Spring semester.  Pray for community-building, real conversations, support for the weary, and wisdom to take HCF in God’s direction and not ours.

In the future, submit your own praises and prayer requests to your co-presidents and specify whether we have permission to include them in the newsletter.  Even if you don't want them to be public, we would be so delighted to share in your blessings and lift up your burdens.

“And my God will meet all your needs according to the riches of his glory in Christ Jesus.” – Philippians 4:19
