Dear HCF,

We're entering the final stretch of cases, exams, and projects!  As we prayed tonight in Community Group (and as Lydia describes below), we ask that God would help us to "right-size" our daily worries in light of His kingdom and the amazingly powerful things he is doing in us and this world.  That said, if you are feeling anxious about the upcoming few weeks, don't hesitate to contact one of us (me, Jake, Kyle, Lydia, Freya, Robert) and we'd be happy to be a listening ear and pray with you.  Let us bear your burdens with you!

One small "assignment" for each of you this Thanksgiving week.  Think about someone you are thankful for and write to them!  It can be a faculty, a staff, a former co-worker or mentor, a classmate, a family member...really anyone!  We need more thanks going around this world and no better place to start than with ourselves :).

Happy Thanksgiving!

Grace and Peace,

Anthony, Jake, and Megan

Weekly Reflection - Lydia Kearney (FTMBA '17)

“Fear not, for I am with you,
Do not be dismayed, for I am your God” – Isaiah 41:10

Last week was a battle for peace for me.  In the midst of a lot of excitement about the opportunities ahead, I have also felt more hurried and overscheduled than ever before at Haas.  Meeting to meeting, task to task, barely finding time to identify what’s next. I know I am not alone in that feeling of constant movement. Meanwhile the violence on the news is a ready reminder that the world is in need of healing and transformation.

There is a lot of work to be done. Both right in front of us. And in the world. And we are each uniquely called to a certain piece of it. That call—vocare, vocation—sometimes feels huge and heavy to me. Beyond my abilities. And I find myself not just working but also worrying. I woke up anxious on Monday this week and when I took a moment to reflect on why, I identified an uninvited set of questions living in my heart:  “Am I in over my head? Is all my energy and effort going to be enough?”

I realized my heart was troubled over questions that have already been answered in the simple truth of the gospel - I have already been declared “enough.” I have nothing to prove. Nothing to worry about. Only work to do out of love and gratitude for the one who is ultimately “enough” not only for me, but for the world.

In one of his many wonderful podcast sermons, Tim Keller declares that “Worry is always a refusal to assume a humble posture before God.” I love that line. It checks my tendency to pass my worrying off as humility toward my own abilities. And it reminds me that God will never put anything in front of me that He doesn’t intend to do through me by His own strength. All I have to do is work and pray. And in that knowledge I find both energy and peace.

Praises and Prayer Requests

PRAISE for our identity in Christ as loved, blameless children of God.

PRAYER for us to stop worrying and start trusting for more of our daily needs.

Please submit your own praises and prayer requests to your co-presidents and specify whether we have permission to include them in the newsletter.  Even if you don't want them to be public, we would be so delighted to share in your blessings and lift up your burdens.

“And my God will meet all your needs according to the riches of his glory in Christ Jesus.” – Philippians 4:19
