Dear HCF,

With the events in Paris and Beirut this week, we lift up our prayers for a broken world.  As Anthony mentions below, we pray that our awareness of this brokenness not only makes us more compassionate towards those hurting around us, but also drives us deeper into the Word and into a relationship with Jesus, the true Word who has come to make all things new.

Remember that Morning Prayer is moving to Wednesdays from now until the end of the semester and will also be accessible via conference line.  Also remember to register now for the early bird rate for the Believers in Business conference and feel free to contact any of us for more info.

Grace and Peace,

Anthony, Jake, and Megan

Weekly Reflection - Anthony Patterson (FTMBA '16)

My soul is weary with sorrow; strengthen me according to your word.
-Psalm 119:28

The world is broken. People (like you and me) are broken. We experience this reality in our personal lives as well as through what we see in the news. It's hard to grapple with the realities of sin in others and in ourselves.

For me this week had many highs and lows - the lows were rather sorrowful. As I think about leaving business school and going into the "real world," part of me wonders how the Lord is preparing me to be a vessel for His light in the darkness when even I feel grieved about my own inadequacies and weaknesses in these times.

It always comes down to this: go to His word. Seek, meditate, and treasure the Word of God. His word never changes. It's sharp, it's pruning, and it's timeless. It tells us the truth about the problems of this world, but it also tells us the solution: Jesus Christ. The hope we have in the redemptive work of the cross - and knowing that God loved us that much to go passed our sinful nature to offer us the free gift of salvation - is what gives us strength to do the work God called us to do: to live the gospel, no matter where or when.
