2010 Real Estate Speaker Series

´╗┐Mondays from 4-6pm

Room C250

If you haven't heard, this past Monday began the 2010 Real Estate Speaker Series. For those of you unfamiliar with the Speaker Series, this program is sponsored by BREC whereby seven partner-level professionals in the real estate industry come to campus this fall to share two hours of their time. Professionals will be coming from the areas of real estate private equity, development and real estate investment banking.

The purpose of the program is to inform students who are considering a career in real estate, as well as people just wishing to learn more about the industry. However, this program will generally expand students' exposure to successful real estate professionals. These guests will tell you about their careers, lessons learned, views on the market, and of course take any questions you have.  First years with an RE interest should definitely be in attendance. However, all other students are more than welcome to join.

October Schedule:

Oct 4 - Rick Holmstrom, Menlo Equities

Oct 11 - Julie Stien, SKS Investments

Oct 25 - Alan Chamarro, Grosvenor America

If you have any questions, feel free to contact Scott Coleman or Chad Arkoff.

1930 Martin Luther King Jr. Way, Berkeley, CA

Despite strong community support, the apartment building planned for the corner of University Avenue and Martin Luther King Jr. Way in Berkeley, CA was delayed for five years by a small group of dedicated project opponents. During the approvals process, the project morphed from a 186 unit apartment with limited retail to a 148 unit building featuring a full-service Trader Joe’s grocery store and a small café. After surviving numerous planning and zoning challenges, an appeal to the city council and two lawsuits, the project began construction just two months before Lehman Brothers filed for bankruptcy.
