Campaign Rules and Regulations:
IMPORTANT: Candidates must ensure that they read the campaign rules carefully and ask for any clarifications they may need. Failure to comply with the rules and regulations will result in immediate disqualification.
The EWMBA Association has 4 - 5 Elected Positions:
- President (up to 2 Co-Presidents)
- Executive Vice President (EVP)
- EVP of Marketing & Communications
- EVP of Finance

23-24 Academic Year Election Timeline:
- Tuesday, April 4, 2023: Candidacy Materials due to Marissa Maliwanag (Elections Officer) at (ewmbaa-haas@berkeley.edu & mmaliwanag@berkeley.edu) by 11:59PM (see below for candidacy requirements)
- Thursday, April 6, 2023: Candidates announced and materials published; campaigning may begin after candidates are announced
- Monday, April 10, 2023: Voting begins via personalized email link; campaigning may continue through the end of the voting process
- Sunday, April 16, 2023: Voting concludes at 11:59pm
- Tuesday, April 18, 2023: Candidates informed of results
- Thursday, April 20, 2023: Winners announced via Bear Necessities
SPECIAL NOTES:
- While candidates may run as an election team, individuals for each position are voted upon individually.
- In the event of a tie, the existing Executive Team may determine the course of action to determine a tiebreaker event, unless all candidates involved in the tie come to a mutually agreed-upon solution.
- This Executive Team then appoints Vice Presidents to various positions and committees that serve the given needs of the EWMBA students and Haas.
- Students who are interested in becoming an EWMBAA VP are encouraged to suggest new committees if they feel they would positively impact the EW student experience.
Declare your candidacy by emailing the following to the Elections Officer* (ewmbaa-haas@berkeley.edu) by the deadline:
- Platform Document (Required):
- Format: Two slides per position, PDF Format, Pictures and/or Text published to EW Students
- Content: Who you are and your candidacy details
- Video (Required):
- Format: URL Link to your video, hosted on YouTube/Vimeo/Other video-sharing site
- Content: Who you are and your candidacy details
- Maximum length: 1-minute per position
- If you are running with another person for the Co-President position, please note the maximum length of your combined video is 1 minute (this could be broken down into 30 second videos for each person or 1 minute of a combined video)
- Note: Please ensure video permission settings allow public viewing to ensure all students can view
Campaign Rules and Regulations:
IMPORTANT: Candidates must ensure that they read the campaign rules carefully and ask for any clarifications they may need. Failure to comply with the rules and regulations will result in immediate disqualification.
- Campaigning can occur from the beginning of the period (after the candidates' announcement via email) through the time when polls close.
- You may campaign by email, but using official Haas email distribution lists or CampusGroups for mass distributions is prohibited and will disqualify your candidacy (NOTE: the EWMBA Program Office monitors all of these lists).
- Slack Guidelines: you may only post in the #2023-2024ewmbaaelections channel. Do not campaign in other channels or workspaces, and do not spam @channel within this group.
- "Class visits":
- Candidates that wish to do class visits for campaign purposes must only do so before class, during dinner/lunch breaks, or after class with consent of the instructor.
- Candidates must request permission IN ADVANCE from the instructor.
- While you do not need to spend any money to campaign, should you choose to do so, please cap your campaign expenditure at $50.
- Expenditures are meant to create campaign materials such as posters, flyers, videos, etc. These funds may not be used for purposes outside of campaign supplies and operations (i.e., donating to other organizations, buying gifts for the student body, etc.) Please consult with the EWMBAA Executive Team if you are uncertain about particular expenditures.
- The EWMBA Elections Officer will set up, distribute, and run the voting survey
- Allow voters (survey takers) to "change" their vote in case of mistakes
- Every prompt for each position should say "Click to Select Candidate"
- Negative campaigning is not an effective tool in this type of campaign. Focus on your strengths rather than your competitor’s weaknesses.
